TROUBLESHOOTING COMMON PROBLEMS
IF YOU'RE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE SITE AND CAN'T FIND A SOLUTION IN THIS FAQ, SEND A MESSAGE TO ADMIN@BLOCKSAVVY.COM DETAILING THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM.
Q: Why doesn't the invite I received work?
More than likely, your invite doesn't work because the Resident who originally sent it cancelled it for some reason. If you're still interested in joining the Block, go to www.blocksavvy.com, and enter your email in the Invite Request field. If an invite doesn't show up in your email shortly, check your junk or bulk mail folder.
Q: Why does the site log me out every time I go to a new page?
Most likely, your browser is not accepting cookies from BlockSavvy.com. Enable your browser to accept cookies and you should be all good. For additional instructions, go to http://www.google.com/cookies.html. Once you have altered your browser settings, clear the cache (temporary internet files), reload blocksavvy.com, and login again. If the problem continues, you might have a problem with your firewall settings, network permissions or other local internet access controls. These are not problems that we can fix. Contact your network administrator for additional assistance.
Q: Why isn't my profile picture showing up?
The main reason folks have problems uploading photos:

They didn't enter one or more of the required fields in the VITALS section. Look at the rest of the page - see all those orange asterisks? All of those boxes have to be filled out. Once that's done, find the image file again, then click SUBMIT. 9 times out of 10 that'll fix you right up.

The image file isn't on their computer. If your file is on flickr.com or some other remote host, you'll have to download it to your computer in order to upload it to BlockSavvy.

The image file isn't compatible. Not sure what kind of crazy, wacked out format you're storing your photos in, but conver that ish to a .jpg file or something.

The image file is too large. Resize it and try again.

If you still have a problem, log out of the site, clear your browser's cache, log back in and try again. And if you STILL have a problem, hit me back.
Q: Why can't I see any blogs?
In order to view blogs and other features on BlockSavvy, you will need to have JavaScript enabled on your browser. Follow this link for instructions - https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
Q: Why isn't the room I bought showing up?
This problem is usually resolved by either - a) logging out of the site, clearing your browser's cache, and logging back in; or b) installing the latest version of Flash on your machine (it's free, and you can find a download site by Googling 'adobe flash download'). If both of these fixes fail, drop me a note and let me know what kind of computer, operating system, and browser version you're using, and we'll figure it out.
Q: Why aren't the items I purchased in the Shop showing up in my room?
Most likely because you haven't yet placed it in your room (See - Q: HOW DO I GET STUFF INTO MY ROOM? for a complete explanation of the process). If you get through that and still can't get it working, send a message to ADMIN@BLOCKSAVVY.COM detailing the problem.
Q: If I don't like the room I bought, can I get another one?
At the moment, you're stuck with whatever room you can afford. If you blew your bank on the first room, you won't be able to get another one until you get that cake up.
Q: Can I trade my room in for another one?
Not yet, but that's in the works.
Q: Why am I not receiving SavvyDollars for every blog entry I create, or for every photo and media file I import or upload?
You can post as many blog entries or import as many photos and media files as you want, but in order to keep fools from trying to rack up the SavvyDollars by just posting a bunch of nonsense, you can only collect SavvyDollars for one (1) blog entry per day, fifty (50) photo uploads/imports per month, and fifty (50) media uploads/imports per month.
HOW DO I DO STUFF
THIS SECTION CONTAINS BASIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOST FEATURES ON THE SITE. YOU CAN FIND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BY CLICKING THE HELP BUTTON NEXT TO THE FEATURE YOU'RE TRYING TO USE.
Q: How do I invite friends to BlockSavvy?
Just click the SEND INVITE button in your RESIDENT TOOLS, then enter a first and last name and a valid email address, as well as a personalized message. Click the INVITE button, and an invitation will be sent immediately. If your friend doesn't receive their invitation, tell them to check their junk/bulk mail folders. Every successful invitation earns you 1500 SavvyDollars! And if you need more invites, send a request to ADMIN@BLOCKSAVVY.COM. UNACCEPTED INVITES EXPIRE AFTER ONE MONTH! Check your Family page to view pending invites.
Q: How do I change my thumbnail photo?
Click the CHANGE MY PHOTO button in the ABOUT ME box. Browse your computer for the photo file you want and click the SUBMIT button. A confirmation notice in the upper right hand corner of the page will tell you if your update was successful. If it isn't successful, that notification will tell you why.
Q: How do I move to a different Block?
Click the EDIT MY PROFILE button in the ABOUT ME box, and look under the VITALS tab. See the field labeled BLOCK? The one that defaults to THE AVE? That's a drop down menu that lets you select a different Block. Submit the change and you'll be on your new block.

And no, you can't live on more than one Block.
Q: How do I change my username?
Yup. JUst click the EDIT MY PROFILE button in the ABOUT ME box, then change your name in the username field on the VITALS page. Make sure all required fields are completed (those marked with an orange asterisk), then click SUBMIT. Your username and your BlockSavvy URL will reflect the change immediately.
Q: How do I buy a room?
See that button above the ROOM display that says BUY ROOM? I think that's what you're looking for. You will only be able to purchase a room if you have sufficient funds. You will be asked to confirm your purchase, and once you confirm, a confirmation notification will appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen indicating which room you purchased.
Q: How do I delete unwanted comments?
Click the EDIT COMMENTS button, then scroll down to the comment you want to remove and click the red X next to it. Done. Gone. Easy. After that, send that user a message and ask them not to comment anymore. If they do, IGNORE their ass.
Q: How do I find out who ranked my room?
Click the View All Comments link in your COMMENTS box, and scroll down below the comments. You’ll see everyone that ranked your room, their rank, and any message they’ve left for you.
Q: How do I preview changes I've made to my profile, room, SavvyBoards or Top 6, so I can see what they look like when folks visit my page?
See that "LIVE VIEW URL" in the ROOM TOOLS? Click that and a live view of your page will appear in a new window. Want to see your profile? Click the PROFILE button and you'll see the same thing any other resident sees when they visit your page. Want to see what that SavvyBoard looks like? Check it out. Kill that window and you'll return to edit mode.
Q: How do I invite other residents to be my neighbor?
When you visit someone's room, you'll see a button that says ADD NEIGHBOR. Click it to invite that resident to become your neighbor. Neighbors have a quick and permanent link to each other's rooms, and are able to more efficiently communicate with each other. And you get 100 SavvyDollars when your ADD NEIGHBOR request is accepted!

If you click the NEIGHBORS button, you'll see a list of incoming and outgoing neighbor requests.
Q: How do I add to or change my Top 6 Neighbors?
Click the NEIGHBORS button in your NEIGHBORS display box. You can remove neighbors from your Top 6 by clicking the red X beneath their profile picture. To add new neighbors to your Top 6, click the ADD TO TOP 6 button, then drag and drop the new neighbor profile picture to the Top 6 area of your Neighbors page. Your changes will be saved automatically. Your Top 6 Neighbors will display in that sweet looking carousel image above your room when other residents view your room.
Q: How do I prevent another resident from sending comments, messages, or otherwise communicating with me on BlockSavvy?
If someone's being a pest and ignores your polite request to cease and desist all contact, you've got the Ignore button option. Go to that resident's page and click IGNORE, and they will be unable to communicate with you in any way. It sucks to be ignored. It sucks even more to get IGNORED on BlockSavvy. It sucks 300 SavvyDollars more. So don't go around Ignoring folks just for the helluvit. Patterns of abuse will be punished swiftly and sternly by an angry and irrational ADMIN. Use it with discretion. You'll see a list of residents you've ignored at the bottom of the page, so don't act like it was all accidental either. If someone bothers you, send them a note asking them to leave you alone.
Q: I sent someone a neighbor request and they denied it and I lost SavvyDollars. What kind of nonsense is that?
Look, we don’t want folks just spamming one another with neighbor requests to try and rack up SavvyDollars. That’s not how it works. If you don’t know someone, you should send them a message to confirm that they want to be your neighbor. If they don’t, you can save yourself some SavvyDollars. If you decide that you’d rather just send a neighbor request to everyone that joins the Block, expect to get a few denials.
Q: How do I find out who IGNORED me?
You don’t. That’s the whole point of the IGNORE tool. Someone doesn’t want to have any contact with you, for whatever reason. Sorry, but that’s just the breaks. But if you’re being a good BlockSavvy Resident, chances are other residents aren’t just going to start ignoring you for no reason.
Q: What is that "Blocks" section on the NEIGHBORS page all about?
You can organize your neighbors into "blocks" to streamline communication. Want to talk just to a couple of folks, to your co-workers, to your BlockSavvy friends, or the folks you've known for decades? Just create a "block" for them. View and organize those "blocks" by clicking the NEIGHBORS button.
Q: How do I upload Photos?
For a step-by-step tutorial, click the UPLOAD PHOTOS button in your Resident Tools, then click the help icon on the PHOTOS page. You've got two options:
Upload photos directly from your computer
Import photos from flickr.com (requires flickr.com account)

Whichever option you choose, you'll begin from the same place: click the PHOTOS button in your RESIDENT TOOLS. The PHOTOS main page offers several ways to import, upload, organize and share your photos.

Do you want to import/upload photos to your General Photos folder, or to an Album?

General Photos
Click the ADD flickr PHOTOS button to import images from photos you've uploaded to your flickr.com account. Enter your flickr username and password. Drag and drop the photos you want from the paginated popup box to the General Photos field. You don't even have to save or submit or anything once you drop it on the page, it's there. Click the edit icon under each image to edit the title or text, and click the red X to remove a photo.
or click ADD PHOTO to upload photos from your computer. You have the option of entering a name and description for each file you upload. Browse your computer for the photo file you want, then click ADD.

Import/Upload to an Album
Click ADD ALBUM (or click the edit icon to edit an existing album). Enter a NAME and DESCRIPTION of the Album (these fields are required - if you leave 'em blank, your Album won't save). The thumbnail is optional, but it looks good, y'know? Click ADD, and you'll be able to add photos from flickr.com or your computer, exactly like I explained above, except now the pictures are all neat and organized in your Album.

Once you imported or uploaded photos to the site, they'll be available for use in other applications and features, such as the SavvyBoards. And did I mention that you get 100 SavvyDollars for every photo you import/upload? Ballin!
Q: How do I upload Music?
For a step-by-step tutorial, click the UPLOAD MEDIA button in your Resident Tools, then click the help icon on the MEDIA PAGE. At the moment, we're only allowing users to upload two (2) music tracks. Click the UPLOAD MEDIA button, then either add a track to your GENERAL media section by clicking the ADD MEDIA button, or add a track to a playlist by editing or creating a playlist, then adding the track.
Q: How do I upload Videos?
For a step-by-step tutorial, click the UPLOAD MEDIA button in your Resident Tools, then click the help icon on the MEDIA PAGE. You can only import videos from YouTube at the moment. We don't have server space allocated for music and video uploads yet (it's coming though). Got a YouTube account? You can upload an unlimited number of videos to YouTube, then access your My Videos folder (or My Favorites) from BlockSavvy and import whatever you want.

Once you've got a YouTube account and have either uploaded videos to the My Videos folder or saved favorite videos in your My Favorites folder, you can import them to BlockSavvy. Click the MEDIA button, and on the MEDIA main page, click ADD PLAYLIST. Add a name and description of the playlist, and an optional thumbnail image, then click ADD. You'll then see a button that says ADD YOUTUBE VIDEO. Click it and select the YouTube folder you want to access in the popup box that appears, and enter your YouTube.com username and password. Thumbnails of your videos will appear in a paginated popup box, and you can just drag the video you want and drop it on the playlist page.

Once you've uploaded video to the MEDIA section of your room, it will be available for use in other devices, such as the SavvyBoards (See: How Do SavvyBoards Work, in this blog).
Q: How do I get stuff?
Go SHOPPING! For a step-by-step tutorial, click the SHOP button in the top navigation bar, then click the help icon on the SHOP page. Just click the SHOP button in the top navigation bar, then search for the stuff you want. Show off your style and let everybody feel your swagger. Build up that bankroll and get the real bling. The more you do on the site, the more you earn, the more stuff you can get. As the site expands over the next couple of months, we'll be unlocking more functionality - albums will have playable tracks, DVD's will have trailers and movie clips, and you'll even be able to flip through a copy of your favorite mags and comic books. There's a ton more about to drop, but you're here early, so get that cake up!
Q: How do I get stuff into my room?
For a step-by-step tutorial, just click the MANAGE button above your room, then click the help icon. To add items to your room, click MANAGE, then select the room object (TV, stereo, shelf, table, cabinet, etc.) you want to associate a purchased item with. A popup window with all items currently associated with that room object will appear, and all inventory available for placement will appear at the bottom of the screen. Click the green plus sign to add an item to the room object. When neighbors visit your room, they can click on hotspots to see the stuff you're rockin'. Get on it!
Q: How do I remove stuff from my room?
For a step-by-step tutorial, just click the MANAGE button above your room, then click the help icon. To remove items from a room object, click MANAGE, then select the room object (TV, stereo, shelf, table, cabinet, etc.) you want to remove items from. A popup window with all items currently associated with that room object will appear. Select the REMOVE ITEMS tab from the menu at the bottom of the screen, then click the red x next to the item you want to remove.
Q: How do I change which room displays, or make more than one room available for display?
For a step-by-step tutorial, just click the MANAGE button above your room, then click the help icon. Click MANAGE, then select the room you want to display from the dropdown menu below the room. If you want to make this room your default, select the SET AS DEFAULT button. If you want to make the room visible when others visit your page, select the MAKE THIS ROOM VISIBLE option box. De-select this box to hide the room from visitors.
Q: How do I earn SavvyDollars?
If you click the BANK button in your RESIDENT TOOLS, you'll see an icon labeled VIEW SAVVY DOLLAR SHEET. Click that and you'll find a complete breakdown of what each transaction on the site earns you.

Q: How do I make a SavvyBoard?
SavvyBoards are a blank canvas you can use to create video and photo collages, to display your favorite stuff, to rep your neighbors, to play games, and even to create a video player. To get started, just click ADD NEW under your SAVVYBOARD TOOLS. Then, decide what you want to do: ADD NEIGHBORS, ADD PHOTOS, ADD VIDEO, ADD ITEMS, ADD TEXT, or ADD ROOM CANDY. Just drag and drop the stuff you want onto the board, then move it around until you've got it where you want it. Title the board and hit SAVE, then you're all good. You can even associate the SavvyBoards with objects in your room (just click MANAGE ROOMS, then choose a board for each object - only 1 per object). For a complete SavvyBoard tutorial, click the help icon next to the SavvyBoard title image.
Q: How does ROOM CANDY work?
ROOM CANDY allows you to embed integrated applications in your SavvyBoards. From games and other "widgets" to search engines, we're putting the best of the Web right at your fingertips. When you add or edit a SavvyBoard, just select ADD ROOM CANDY, then choose the application you want from the dropdown CATEGORY menu. Simply drag and drop the game, search tool, or other integration to your SavvyBoard, then save the changes. It's that simple.
Q: How do I put a slide show on my SavvyBoard?
When you add or edit a SavvyBoard, just select ADD ROOM CANDY, then choose Slide.com from the dropdown CATEGORY menu. Enter your slide.com login and password, then drag and drop the slide show of your choice to your SavvyBoard, then save the changes.
Q: How do I add my MySpace profile to my SavvyBoards?
When you add or edit a SavvyBoard, just select ADD ROOM CANDY, then choose Search from the dropdown CATEGORY menu. Select the MySpace Search and drag and drop it to your SavvyBoard. Click the edit icon (9 boxes, orange row in the middle) and enter your MySpace URL, then save the changes.
Q: How does the MYSPACE PROFILE IMPORT INTEGRATION work?
Click the EDIT MY PROFILE button in the About Me box, then look in the PERSONAL, EDUCATION and WORK tabs and you'll find the IMPORT FROM MYSPACE button. Click it, then enter your MySpace URL address, and the integration will automatically import your profile data from MySpace.
Q: How does the SEARCH tool in the top navigation bar work?
Our SEARCH engine is sweet. You can perform several different kinds of search to find different residents. The search options tabs work together to enable you to build a precise search and find exactly what you are looking for (the following information is also available if you click the question mark icon next to the word SEARCH on the main page):

Keyword tab
Enter any keyword or phrase to find exact matches on any resident page.

Targets tab
Use the targets tab if you want to target a specific value for a specific type of information (i.e. City=New York or Relationship Status=Single). A series of dropdown menus will lead you through the three-step process of adding targets to your search.

View search
Find out what everyone on the Block is listening to, where they went to school, or even their political views by using the View tab to control what information is returned in the search results.

Load search
Save frequently performed searches for quick loading later. A search is comprised of the settings on the Keyword, Targets, and View tabs. You will have the option to save a search after you click the Search button. All saved searches appear under the Load tab. To load and execute a saved search, simply click the saved search you want, click the Search button, and you'll receive real-time results.
Q: Anything else I should know about the SEARCH function?
Our SEARCH engine uses profile data to make matches, so the more you share about yourself, your interests and whatnot, the better results you'll get in terms of matching search results. And we think our Targeted Search tool is one of our finer offerings - your chances of finding who you're looking for in this ever-expanding community are better than anywhere else on the Web. Use it. Love it. Tell your friends and loved ones. Makes a great stocking stuffer!
GENERAL QUESTIONS
GO AHEAD, ASK US ANYTHING.
Q: What am I supposed to be doing here?
Welcome to the Block. You've found the best social networking site on the Web. Why the best? We've created a one-stop shop where you can do all your online business - communicate with friends, build social networks, play games, import photos and videos from Flickr.com and YouTube.com, even import your profile data from MySpace. Unlike other social networking sites, we're working to make things easier for you. We've integrated your favorite widgets, from games to slide.com slideshows, and even video and MySpace searches - so all you have to do is drag and drop the stuff you want on to a SavvyBoard and you're good to go. And keep in mind that this is only the "lite" version of the site. We're about to unleash a gang of new features, so stay tuned! In the meantime, tell your friends about the block, start tricking out your room and building your SavvyBoards, visit the neighbors, upload photos and videos, submit blog entries, read and comment on articles, and basically do just about anything you want. And if you need anything, just holla!
Q: What are Savvy Dollars?
A Savvy Dollar is the currency of BlockSavvy and they are used to reward our residents for their participation. You can earn these by doing almost anything on the site from simply logging-in to writing editorials and articles for our content site. We created this system because we want our residents to help the site grow to bigger and better heights.
Q: What's up with these SavvyBoards?
Certainly! If you haven't yet experienced the mind boggling goodness of the SAVVYBOARDS, pay your old friend ADMIN a visit. Watch T-Mac get live while you test your three-point skills. Kick it old school style with Donkey Kong, Pac Man & QBert. Check out the best golf shot ever while you play a round at Augusta. Ridiculous.

The SAVVYBOARD management tools allow you to add any photos and videos you've uploaded to your PHOTO and MEDIA collections on BlockSavvy, as well as thumbnail images of neighbors, thumbnails and large images of items you've purchased from the SavvyStore, and ROOM CANDY, our collection of games and other widgets. That's right - no more copying and pasting html code and worrying about whether your network host will allow it. BlockSavvy is bringing the best of the Web to you and putting it all in one convenient spot. SAVVYBOARDS allow you maximum creative control when it comes to organizing and personalizing your online content. And we're about to start dropping crazy rewards for the sickest SAVVYBOARDS, so make with the creativity.

And it's not just about games (although, can you think of a better place to start?). We'll give you easy access to your favorite IM services, your webmail, your sports scores and stock quotes, and your favorite RSS feeds. And this isn't some proprietary nonsense where we try to take over your content delivery. We let you decide where you want to host your photos and videos, what games you play, and which 3rd party widgets you use. We just make it convenient.

And just to smear a little icing on that cake, you can even take your SAVVYBOARDS with you as you visit other sites. Embed the code on your MySpace page, blog, or other java-enabled spot on the Web, and let everyone know how sweet life is on the Block!
